OUR OBJECTIVE ... From Over 20 Years Ago!
Why should anyone bother creating even more web pages about a sport that is already well served? What more is there that needs to be said? Hasn’t every angle already been covered? You would think so. But then my searches for some half-remembered cycling stories resulted in either nothing at all - or reports that seemed wrong.
So years of accumulated paper records and photos were checked for missing facts. And this site was created as a result - with the paper records either sold, given away or recycled to free-up some space.
Making this web site has been very much a labour of love - a not for profit project created out of spare time and decades of following the sport. But with no options for handing over to any younger fans it is time to cut back on my archive searches and website work in order to get out more - while I still can. So some things may go and others may be left frozen in time ... at least as long as the hosting bills get paid.
But at least a little bit has been added to the Internet’s sum total of knowledge and just a few of the errors have been put right. And I must stay in touch with the sport that has been so enjoyable for so many decades ..
Update 20 July 2025 Watching another epic Tour de France we are reminded of a Tour champion from the 1960’s - Jacques Anquetil - and the only time I saw him in action .... at the 1966 World Road Race Championships on the Nurburgring motor racing circuit in Germany.
Update 16 March 2026 The sad news of the passing of ‘Mr VeloUK’ - Larry Hickmott - reminded me that life is short and time waits for no one. .
